Church Street Barns is a substantial range of period former outbuildings which were originally part of the adjacent Grange. The Barns are likely to date from as early as the 16th century and possibly before. The buildings were used as a granary, and the North Barn was used as a brew-house, together with former stables, which were extended and converted in the 1970's. Originally designed to be two properties, in recent years the property has been used as one large property with subsidiary accommodation to house a private art collection and overspill accommodation for guests etc.
Of particular note internally are the well proportioned main reception rooms which are both characterful and light. South barn has a fine Aga kitchen/breakfast room, off which is a multipurpose, large, stone flagged conservatory/ dining room, with glazing to the walled garden to the west of the building, French doors access a large terrace, which most notably includes an outdoor Italian wood-fired oven or "forno". The property offers great flexibility for a large family or for those wishing to house a dependant relative, visiting guests or to run a business from home. The converted stable block to the south of the site, which enjoys outlooks over the extensive mainly lawned garden, would offer potential as a separate dwelling, or, as is currently the case, a space to run a business or home office.
The combination of over 9,000 sq ft of highly individual and flexible accommodation on a secluded site in the centre of this highly regarded village make the property a rare commodity offered for sale for the first time since its conversion.
Outside
The property has a "hidden" entrance just opposite the Church. A long shingled drive leads down alongside the main range of the building to a large shingled parking area between the North & South barn and the "Stables". A gap between the south barn and the Games annexe leads into the large walled garden. There are a number of mature fruit trees and a wide expanse of lawn with the tower of the church visible to the north. There is a large paved terrace with direct access to the Conservatory in one corner of which is a brick and pantiled "Italian oven" for cooking pizza and bread.
The majority of the grounds are situated to the south of the stables and are laid mainly to lawn with a circular feature to one side surrounded by hedging.
