Greenhills is a handsome Grade II listed country house commanding views over mature gardens and established parkland. The house is further complemented by a traditional coach house and a gate house.
The house was built in the 19th Century, probably as a result of huge wealth being brought into the area by the introduction of the railway which allowed an ease of access to major centres including Birmingham and London. Bought in 1927 by E. J. Thompson, it has remained in the same family ownership ever since.
An upstanding Victorian house of great stature, Greenhills offers impressive yet well centred, light and attractive accommodation boasting high moulded ceilings, original fireplaces, polished oak floors and deep shuttered sash windows. The property is beautifully designed and orientated to maximise views and light.
The three elegant principal reception rooms lead off a striking hallway with its notable oak staircase, along with library. Beyond is the former servants' wing which includes a sitting room, kitchen with an AGA range and two pantries, one with the original housekeeper's cupboards. There is also a large cellar. Upstairs there are seven bedrooms, all of which offer individual character features including fireplaces with cast iron grates and casement windows. There are three family bathrooms and potential to create en suites if required. A much loved home, the house has been well maintained over the years but does require some updating.
GATE HOUSE
The Gate House compliments the main house in style and includes two reception rooms, a kitchen, three bedrooms and a family bathroom. The property is currently let on a short hold tenancy agreement although a rolling three month notice has been provided should the buyer wish to have vacant procession.
COACH HOUSE AND STABLE YARD
To the rear of the house is the traditional coach house and stable block around a brick courtyard. The coach house with its ornate leaded lattice windows, offers garaging and an adjoining room with versatile living space above with potential to convert to secondary accommodation or home office (subject to the necessary planning permission being obtained).
To the other side the stable block includes stabling, tack and feed rooms with loft space above. Three garages of wood and glass construction are found adjacent to the stables and to the rear of the courtyard is a wooden framed greenhouse.
A pump yard is found to the rear of the house with coal shed and access to the coach house and gardens.
GARDENS AND GROUNDS
Approached up a long tree lined driveway to a gravel sweep to the front of the house, Greenhills stands in magnificent landscaped gardens which flow almost seamlessly into the surrounding parkland.
The house stands above sweeping lawns and terrace that form the main garden. Mature beech, oak, lime and landmark wellingtonias border the gardens and productive rose beds adorn the terrace.
A walled kitchen garden with formal box hedging and fruit trees is found to the rear of the property and an established orchard with a wider variety of fruit trees lies to the front of the house.
The parkland extends to approximately 20 acres of paddocks, pasture, arable and woodland.
Greenhills stands up a long tree lined driveway with views across its beautiful gardens and parkland. Situated on a quiet lane, close to the villages of Oaken and Codsall, the house combines country living with easy access to West Midland business centres including Wolverhampton and Birmingham for daily commuting.
The village of Codsall offers excellent local amenities including both primary and secondary schools, shops, sports facilities and a train station providing a regular service to Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street stations, from where connections can be caught to London Euston. The area is renowned for its excellent schools both within the state and private sectors including Tettenhall College, Birchfield and Wolverhampton Girls' High School.
There are also a number of highly regarded golf courses including
nearby Wrottesley, Wergs, South Staffordshire, Oxley and Perton Park. There is good riding in the locality with quiet country lanes and bridleways providing access through Pattingham and behind the Chillington Estate to Brewood. The national motorway network is nearby with the M54 (junction 2) being within 6 miles which connects with the M6 and M6 toll road. Regional International airports include Birmingham, East Midlands and Manchester.
From Wolverhampton take the A41 north-east towards Newport. Continue on this road for approximately 4 miles before turning right into Stafford Lane opposite the entrance to Wrottesley Golf course. Proceed for approximately 0.2 miles along the lane and the sandstone pillared gateway opening to the driveway to Greenhills will be found on the right handside.
