Bridgnorth 6 miles, Wolverhampton 11 miles, Telford 14 miles, Birmingham 22 miles
This is the second time that the property has been sold; the current owners bought the estate in 1968 and before that the estate's ownership can be traced back to medieval times. It has passed continuously by inheritance, often via female line.
Chyknell Hall was designed by John Haycock and built in 1814. There is evidence, such as a date stone in the stable courtyard dated 'E.F.T 1792' indicating that a much older house was once on the site. In 1858 substantial alterations and additions were made by Edward Haycock (son of John). Since then the property has been modernised but very few structural changes have been made. This has ensured that the integrity of the property has not been jeopardised and the property is adorned with a wealth of period features.
Approached from two separate private drives leading through the parkland, Chyknell Hall is well situated in the middle of its land and enjoys views over the impressive gardens and mature parkland. At the head of the front drive are 19th Century estate railings, gates and Chyknell Lodge; a pretty two storey lodge cottage (described in more detail later). The drive, about a third of a mile long, which is partly tree lined winds through picturesque open parkland and into an enclosed area in front of the house. The elegant Regency house has rendered facades and a stone Doric colonnaded entrance.
