Description

Apley Hall is one of Shropshire's finest and most important country houses. Primarily built of Grinshill stone in Gothic style, the house was commissioned by Thomas Whitmore in 1811 and was designed to emulate a romantic castle overlooking the River Severn. The house is believed to be the inspiration behind P.G. Wodehouse's famous novel Blandings Castle.

The Hall has in recent years been fully restored by Earlstone, renowned developers of historic buildings and divided into five beautiful homes in the main house. These retain the integrity and character of the hall with period features and rooms retained where possible while creating contemporary living space fitted to the highest specification. Each house has access to the Apley Park leisure facilities.

The Courtyard House was formerly the servant quarters to Apley Hall, yet reflects the same elegance and stature of the main house with high moulded ceilings and large sash windows. The house has been restored to combine the best features of this wonderful period house with contemporary living space and newly fitted modern conveniences.

The Courtyard House offers light and gracious accommodation with a large drawing room which could combine as dining room, along with a luxurious kitchen and a further adaptable reception room, all with polished walnut boarded floors. The staircase leads up to an open plan sitting room with a double aspect offering stunning views across the rolling and part wooded parkland. The three bedrooms are all large and elegant, with two having en suite shower rooms fitted to a high specification, the master bedroom also benefits from an en suite dressing room.

The front door is found in an inner courtyard accessed from the main courtyard where there is ample parking and two designated parking spaces for the Courtyard House.

Fixtures and Fittings

All fixtures fittings and garden statuary are specifically excluded unless otherwise mentioned within these particulars.

Situation

The Courtyard House is the back wing of the magnificent Grade II* listed mansion house, Apley Hall. The house has a stunningly beautiful approach down a long driveway where it stands in the privacy of glorious rolling parkland with an outlook over the River Severn.

While enjoying a peaceful and quiet rural setting, the house is close to the village of Norton and has easy access to the market town of Bridgnorth (7 miles) and Telford (7 miles) from where the M54 provides onward travel to Shrewsbury (20 miles), Wolverhampton (13 miles) and the Midlands. Regional airports include Birmingham, Manchester and East Midlands.

Directions

From Junction 4 M54 Take the A464 to Shifnal. On reaching the roundabout take the third exit and at the second roundabout take the A4169 before branching right onto the A454 passing through Brockton. At the roundabout take the second exit onto the A442 towards Bridgnorth. After a short distance enter the village of Norton and take the right hand turn into Cheswardine Lane. The lane continues straight through to the driveway which sweeps through the parkland to Apley Hall.

On arriving at Apley Hall continue straight through the arch into the courtyard, parking to the left outside the Courtyard House. To the right an archway leads through to an inner courtyard where the front door to Courtyard House will be found on the left.
